Series Review - Red, Hot and Blue by Cat Johnson

This series of short, sweet, reads is a good collection of military tales. I bought it, in part, for the new book Jared, which is book 4. As per ususal, I enjoyed Cat Johnsons writing. The characters were vivid and the plot lines punchy. I recommend the series, I enjoyed some more than others, but as a whole I was very entertained.

Favourite Book of the series - Jimmy (#3) - Jimmy and Lia were smoking hot!!
Favourite scene of the series - Jared (#4) - Angry Sex Scene....*fans*
Favourite male lead - Jimmy (#3) - "One word of advice, darlin'. Never tell me how to make love"
Secondary character most likely to become my new obsession - Bobby (#4) - A steely eyed deputy, who I'm *promised* has an out of office fondness for his handcuffs ( Yay!!!!:D )

Trey
Red, Hot and Blue #1
Cat Johnson

Trey, Jimmy and Jack are military boys. Navy seals, they see a lot of action so they often need to unwind. Carly's bar is the watering hole of choice for the men of the base, as it's cheap, friendly and the waiting-on staff know not to ask any questions. Of course, another big draw for Jack and Trey is Carly herself, but so far she has been unwilling to play with either of them. Jack is convinced that Carly is "the one", so Trey backs off, no matter how many sparks fly between the two of them.

When the military needs a female operative to go undercover as Trey's girlfriend, it seems Carly is perfect for the task. With her military background at the forefront, she quickly agrees to help out, but little does she realise how up close and personal she will have to get with Trey. After some steamy action, for the sake of their cover and some very unusual voyeurs, is Trey willing to risk his friendship for the girl of his dreams?

This was a very sweet, quick read. I love Cat Johnson's work, and this was no exception. Trey really does make your heart beat faster and your palms a little sweaty...I really do love a man in uniform :D Carly is a fantastically strong character. I liked the chemistry between the two of them and the sex scenes are fabulously steamy and just a little kinky....I love a bossy man! I have to say that the stand out character for me was Jack! His one-sided infatuation with Carly was so sweet, and the whole southern Gentleman always does it for me anyhow :D A good start to the series.

Jack
Red, Hot and Blue #2
Cat Johnson

Jack goes back to the Southern ranch he grew up at, in an atempt to get over his broken heart. Everything is going fine, until he meets the new ranch hand Nicki. The confusing mix of suspition and attraction he feels towards her, almost irritates him into losing the legendary Southern charm. Eventually, his libido starts to over-rule his head, but can he ever really have real feelings towards a girl he doesn't trust? Nicki is a girl with a huge secret, but she isn't willing to share it with Jack...no matter how hot he is! The reason she chose the ranch is it's safe from her past, but this wouldn't be a good book unless the past came knocking in the form of some stupid mafia dudes. Will Jack protect her, or will he throw her to the wolves for putting his family at risk.

I'll be honest, I was a little disappointed with this book. Jack was my favourite character in the first book, so I was really looking forward to this! Unfortunately it didn't deliver. I liked Jack, he was charming, sexy and smooth as hell! I even liked Nicki, although I didn't really understand her. My problem was the romance just didn't smolder enough for me. Put quite simply, I liked it but I didn't love it as the pages failed to ignite.

Jimmy
Red, Hot and Blue #3
Cat Johnson

My Favourite of the series by far!!! But you need to read book 1...It took me a bloody age to realise there was a cross-over :D

So we begin with all the navy boys on a mission. They have to pretend to be waiting on staff at a dinner party. The mission objective is to protect the rich and important from the terrorist threats (sounds like a waste of tax money to me!) There isn't any, so Jimmy spends his time ogling Lia (AKA the hot red-head), who ogles Jimmy in return. Lia is the daughter of a very important man, and sleeping with the waiter seems like a bit of fun, so she slips him her number for a hook up. They end up having some very hot 69 action, (seriously.....its hot), but then Jimmy is sent off on mission, so ends up out of cell range for 6 months, without ever explaining to Lia what he actually is. Lia spends that time moping because she thinks he dumped her. Jimmy spends what time he has, between getting tortured ,falling a little in love with the image of Lia he has created in his head. A chance encounter means they meet up again, but will she be able to forgive him for not contacting her for 6 months? Will he be able to see the real her, rather than the idealised image he has in his head.

I loved Jimmy. Jimmy is mega hot. Jimmy is what I wanted Jack to be. I liked Lia too, her easy acceptance of her sexuality, and of the difficulties that they may face because of her upbringing, was refereshing for a female. The sex happned very very quickly, but it was incredibly hot, and the perfect end for an evening of lusty looks. If I had one complaint it would be that Ms Johnson had her characters doing rather naughty acts, without being overly graphic (which in some ways I applaud). Unfortunately, this just mean't I just got confused as to what was going on!

Jimmy is definately my book of the series :D Sexy, naughty and a little bit silly.....I liked

Jared
Red, Hot and Bliue #4
Cat Johnson

Jared is a little bit of a lover. As the head of the Equine ranch that his family owns, Jared has a lot of responsibilities, so who can blame him for having a little fun? Enter Mandy Morris. Mandy wants to use the ranch, and the surrounding town, as part of a reality TV show. Jared is instantly attracted and, although she can appreciate that Jared is amazingly hot, Mandy has never let business mix with pleasure so tempers her rushing libido. Jared won't let himself, or the farm be filmed, worried that they will look like country-bumpkins on screen. And so the inevitable butting of heads begins. After one rather drunken evening, tensions spill over and some spectaculary angry sex ensues!! (seriously...hot angry sex is HOT!) Jared eventually decides that the filming project will be good for the town, as the increased publicity and traffic would boost tourism, but will Mandy be able to let her personal rules falter long enough to give him a chance?

I liked this one, but not really the leading man! I really didn't like the way he automatically thought Mandy was out to make them look like fools. I thought it was incredibly judgemental of him, and this, along with the slighly annoying way he spoke to her, just made me become a little cold! I did like his kinky side in the bedroom department....I think the angry sex scene is the hottest thing I have read in this series and, although I had issues with him, them as a couple really worked for me. I really liked Mandy. She was tough and driven, but not afraid to make choices that put her happiness before her career. She left herself open to Jared, and yeah she acted a little hysterical, but that made me like her more, because she was just human!

As is usual with a Cat Johnson book, I got a minor obsession with a secondary character. Bobby, the sheriff, sounds FASCINATING...I wouldn't mind reading his book....I'm kinda hoping he likes to play with handcuffs :D

As an addition to the series, It wasn't my favourite but I enjoyed it! The sex scenes were built up at a good pace, with lingering looks and touches that built up the sexual tension before an explosive scene. There is a scene in the hay shed which didn't sit too badly with me either :D Again, in the insistance to not over detail the naughty bits, I was left a little confused by what was going on in some scenes, but it didn't hinder my enjoyment!

Overall a 4 star series. You don't need to read them all, but I recommend that book 4 and 1 be read together! Short, sweet and sexy....a lovely way to spend a couple of hours.
